Financing your Degree

Financial Aid

The Financial Aid Office (CAR 101, 836-5262) handles most of the scholarships given through the university and other forms of aid: National Direct Student Loans, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, Pell Grants, College Work-Study Program, and Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students. The university also has a Missouri Grant Program. More information on these programs is available in the current Catalog, from the Financial Aid Office.

Since competition is great for all forms of financial aid, applications should be made early. Many schools have deadlines for aid applications which are much earlier than admission deadlines.

Most sources of financial aid provide funds to be used in the pursuit of ordinary course work toward a degree. There are exceptions to this, however; check with Financial Aid for more information on the variety of aid available.

There are five scholarships specifically for departmental majors:

  • Bryan Scot Schowengerdt Memorial Scholarship
  • Richard and Virginia Wilkinson Psychology Scholarship
  • Hom Family Scholarshipp
  • Jennifer L Stewart Memorial Psychology Scholarship
  • Louis Henry and Seryl Ethel Fisher Community Service Scholarship

Employment While Working on Your Degree

There are some opportunities for employment on-campus and off-campus. The Financial Aid Office, CAR 101, 836-5262, and Student Employment Services, BLSH 113, 836-5627, handle these positions.

The Financial Aid Office also has information on the Work-Study Program which is designed to provide employment opportunities for students with their educational program. The Work-Study Program is available to students based on family income. The Financial Aid Office will help you determine your eligibility for this program. If you are interested in Work-Study, check your eligibility when possible. This facilitates matters if you find an open position.
