Welcome to the Missouri State Gerontology club Web page!! We are a student activities organization that emphasizes service and education related to older adults. We all share in our interest in older people and in our desire to learn from and interact with seniors. Membership in the Gerontology Club is open to all Gerontology Program majors.
The "formal" goals of the Gerontology Club include:
- to provide a fun and accepting place to socialize with others in the field of Gerontology
- to share educational and professional experiences with others in the field of Gerontology
- to make the college experience, regardless of one's age, a more personal and enjoyable one
The Club participates in activities to sensitize others to the aging process and interacts with seniors in the community.
- Members volunteer at various agencies/facilities in the Springfield area that provide services to older adults. Some volunteer locations include The Gardens, Springfield Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Creekside Retirement Community, Christian Health Care Facilities.
- We conduct fund raisers to benefit the club and local charities (e.g., Alzheimer's Association Annual Memory Walk)
- Organize panel presentations and guest speakers to talk on topics relevant to Gerontology
- We have club organizational meetings regularly where new and experienced students are encouraged to interact and get involved
- The Program sponsors the Missouri State chapter of SIGMA PHI OMEGA. This is a national Gerontology Honors Society associated with the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education
