Bryan Scot Schowengerdt Memorial Scholarship

Value

The value of the scholarship depends on the endowment's earnings. Generally, the value is approximately $550.00 per academic year.

Funding

This scholarship has been established in memory of Bryan Scot Schowengerdt, who was a Psychology major at Missouri State.

Criteria

The recipient must meet the following criteria:

  • be a full-time student
  • be at least a Sophomore
  • be a Psychology major
  • have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0
  • have financial need.

Preference is given to a Missouri resident from Bates County.

Renewable

Yes -- the recipient must maintain satisfactory academic progress and must reapply each year.

Richard and Virginia Wilkinson Psychology Scholarship

Value

The value of the scholarship depends on the endowment's earnings and the number of scholarships awarded. Generally, the value is approximately $1050.00 per academic year.

Funding

This scholarship has been established by Richard and Virginia Wilkinson. Dr. Richard Wilkinson is an Emeritus Professor of Psychology.

Criteria

  1. Scholarship(s) will be awarded to a student(s) enrolled at Missouri State University who aspires to and who shows promise for admission to a Ph.D. program in an area of psychology other than clinical psychology. First priority award(s) will be made to a senior. Second priority award(s) may be made to a junior. Third priority award(s) may be made to a student(s) who is enrolled in the Master of Science in Psychology-General track, Psychology-Industrial/Organizational Program or other Missouri State graduate programs effectively preparing the student to pursue a Ph.D. program, excluding clinical and counseling psychology. In the event that Missouri State begins to offer a Ph.D. program in psychology, the scholarship(s) will be restricted to a student(s) aspiring to or enrolled in Missouri State's Ph.D. program in an area of psychology other than clinical or counseling psychology.
  2. In addition, the recipient must be academically superior in psychology and also should (a) be superior in personality, character, and sensitivity to human relations, (b) show evidence of creative or original thinking, or (c) both. the recipient must be interested in pursuing a doctoral degree and in conducting research directed toward applying psychology to various human needs and services. Such needs and services include, but are not limited to, wellness, mental health, religion and ethics, community functions, psychoneurology, psychobiology, psychopharmacology, psychogerontology, educational psychology, and psychological issues in peace.

Students interested in clinical psychology are NOT eligible for this scholarship.

Complete the Missouri State Scholarship Application during the Junior year so that the scholarship would be awarded for the Senior year. Name this scholarship as one of those for which you are applying by March 1.


Hom Family Scholarship

Value of Each Scholarship

The amount available for the scholarship will be determined by the interest earned by the fund in the year preceding the award.

Criteria for Selection of Recipient

Scholarship(s) will be awarded annually to a student(s) enrolled in at least 12 hours each semester at Missouri State University who is a formally admitted psychology major. In addition, the applicant must have completed 45 hours with a minimum GPA of 3.0 at the time of application. The applicant shall be accepted for participation in an international Study Away Program, approved by the International Education Office located in University College, for the Fall or Spring semester of the academic year following the application. If no students are eligible during a funding cycle, funds will be carried over into the next funding cycle.

Consideration will be given to college academic achievement, leadership experiences, and active participation in the Missouri State Psychology Club. Awards will be made without regard for financial need.

It is expected that the recipient of this scholarship shall, upon return from the Study Away Program, be available to make an oral presentation to the Psychology Club as well as to write an article for inclusion in Departmental newsletters and publications, summarizing and reflecting upon the Study Away experience.

Renewable

This scholarship is non-renewable.

Application Process:

In addition to the Missouri State Scholarship Application, applicants should include a 1-page letter outlining their relevant experiences at Missouri State, academic and extracurricular plans for Study Away, and personal and professional gains they hope to achieve from the experience of studying in another country. The Financial Aid Office of Missouri State University will administer the scholarship and make the award(s), based upon the recommendation of the Psychology department, which, whenever possible, shall include the Psychology Department Academic Advisor.

Jennifer L. Stewart Memorial Psychology Scholarship

Value of Each Scholarship

The amount available for the scholarship will be determined by the interest earned by the fund in the year preceding the award. The amount of the award may include student fees, books, and living expenses.

Criteria for Selection of Recipient

Scholarship(s) will be awarded annually to a Missouri State University graduate student(s) admitted to the program for a master's degree in psychology. First preference will be given to a student pursuing the clinical psychology track. Other criteria to consider.

  1. Statement of career objectives in psychology, with preference for careers involving children and/or young adults.
  2. Undergraduate 3.25 GPA in at least 20 semester hours or 30 quarter hours of psychology OR graduate 3.25 GPA in psychology OR a combination.

Recipients must be enrolled in at least six (6) graduate hours each semester. Awards will be made with regard for financial need, if all other criteria are equal. If all other criteria among applicants are equal, preference would be that the recipient(s) NOT also hold a graduate assistantship, except in cases of extreme financial need.

Scholarship recipients may be considered for renewal of the scholarship but must reapply.

Application Process

The Financial Aid Office of Missouri State University will administer the scholarship and make the award(s). The Head of the Graduate Program in Psychology will form a selection committee to review applicants and recommend the recipient(s), the recommendations of which will be given priority in consideration. Complete the Missouri State Scholarship Application and letter to the Missouri State Financial Aid Office by March 1st.


Louis Henry and Seryl Ethel Fisher Community Service Scholarship

Value of Each Scholarship

The value of the scholarship is $1,000.

Criteria for Selection of Recipient

The recipient must meet the following criteria:

  • be a gerontology or psychology major
  • be a full-time student when applying for or using award
  • completed 60 credit hours
  • have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75
  • involvement in community service

Application Process

Complete the Missouri State Scholarship Application and name this scholarship as one of those for which you are applying.

Applications are received in the fall semester in November and awarded in the spring semester.  Complete separate application and return the completed application to the Missouri State Financial Aid Office by November 2, 2007.

 


Maxwell Research Award

Value of Each Scholarship

The amount available for the scholarship will be determined by the interest earned by the fund in the year preceding the award.

Criteria for Selection of Recipient

Award(s) will be given annually to a student(s) enrolled at Missouri State University with an undergraduate major in Psychology or Gerontology.  During this time of the award, the student can be enrolled in graduate courses.  An award will be given to the student who conceives and conducts an original research project while enrolled at the undergraduate level.  The student shall submit an American Psychological Association style article to the committee for consideration.  The research must be completed during 15 months prior to the award being made.  The award need not be given each year if the committee deems the submissions not worthy.  Recipients need not be enrolled full time.

Arbuckle Leadership Award

Value of Each Scholarship

The amount available for the scholarship will be determined by the interest earned by the fund.

Criteria for Selection of Recipient

Award(s) will be given to a student(s) enrolled at the undergraduate level at the sophomore level or higher or admitted to the master's degree track within the Department of Psychology at Missouri State University.

Awards may be made for each of the areas: (1) research; (2) peer advisement; (3) service to PsiChi/Psychology Club, Missouri State University or the Springfield Community.

Applicants must provide two letters of support.  One letter should be from a Missouri State University Psychology faculty member.  The other letter will vary with the leadership area applying from: (1) Faculty supervisor for research; (2) Psychology Advisor Coordinator; and (3) the sponsor of PsiChi, Psychology Club, or from a person who has supervised the applicant's service at Missouri State University or in the Springfield community.

A maximum of five yearly awards may be awarded.  Awards will be made without regard for financial aid.

Darlene Johnson Endowed Psychology Research Scholarship

Value of Each Scholarship

The amount available for the scholarship will be determined by the interest earned by the fund.

Criteria for Selection of Recipient

    Half of award in any given year will be awarded to:

  1. Scholarships will be awarded annually to undergraduate students with a declared major in the Department of Psychology at Missouri State University in the College of Health and Human Services.
  2. The applicant shall be enrolled at the sophomore level or higher and have achieved an overall 3.00 grade point average to be considered for this award.
  3. Preference will be given to applicants involved in research within the Department of Psychology and who have presented their research at the Great Plains Psychology Conference, the College of Health and Human Services Student Research Symposium, or a state, regional and/or national psychology conference.
  4. Applicants shall submit one letter of support from the faculty research supervisor and a one page personal statement of their educational and career goals.
  5. Recipients may be considered for renewal of the scholarship with evidence of continued research activity, but must reapply.

    Half of award in any given year will be awarded to:

  1. Scholarships will be awarded annually to undergraduate students with a declared major in the Department of Psychology or graduate students studying for a master's major in the Department of Psychology at Missouri State University in the College of Health and Human Services.
  2. The applicant shall have achieved an overall 3.50 grade point average and shall have a documented history of research to be considered for this award.
  3. Applicants will submit evidence of research activity including at least one APA style paper ready for submission or a submitted article, along with a letter of support from their faculty supervisor, and a one page personal statement of their educational and career goals.
  4. Recipients may be considered for renewal of the scholarship with evidence of continued research activity, but must reapply.
  5. Awards will be made without and initial regard to the financial need of each candidate.
